Regular Vehicle Tune-Ups: Gasoline vs. Diesel
How Maintenance Schedules Vary between Gasoline and Diesel Power Products
Many people like to coast through months and even years with their cars, hoping that everything will be fine. Even when the vehicle starts showing signs of wear and tear, they still don’t want to have it looked at by a professional. Just like you would go to the doctor, dentist, and optometrist for regular check-ups, you should be willing to take your car for a vehicle tune-up too. After all, it is an important asset, one that gets you to work on time, carries your kids around town, and helps you get where you need to go when there is an emergency.
Gasoline vs. Diesel: How Often Should You Think About Your Car?
The great thing about diesel-run vehicles and diesel power products is that, under the right circumstances, they can be cheaper to run. With the price of gas as high as it has been and always volatile, diesel vehicle sales have grown more and more. This also means that a large number of people now have to learn how to take care of their new diesel engines because they operate differently than gasoline vehicles and they can require more care as well.
Diesel power products do require more maintenance that gasoline products, and because of how diesel engines work, it is imperative that you bring your car or truck in for a regular vehicle tune-up. If you have a diesel engine, the oil will get much dirtier than it would in a gas engine, and the fuel filters and water separators require more maintenance as well.
How to Keep Track Of It All
Everyone has a calendar, whether it’s digital or hanging on the kitchen wall. Take a look at what your owner’s manual recommends as a maintenance schedule and write appointments into your calendar so you won’t forget. Usually for gas engines it’s recommended that you bring your vehicle in every 50,000-60,000 kilometres, depending how smoothly it’s still running. Diesel power products and engines may run on a more frequent schedule. In between vehicle tune-ups, you can keep your car or truck operating at its best with regular oil and filter changes.
Sticking to the recommended maintenance schedule means that not only will your vehicle always be running at its best, but that if you ever decide to sell it, you can show potential buyers proof of the care you took of it, adding substantially to its resale or trade value.
